How to Use the TRS-80 Astrology Program

How to Use the TRS-80 Astrology Program

In order to run an accurate horoscope, you must have the following
information:

1. The month, day. and year of birth.

2. The exact time of birth.

3. Whether the birth was A.M. or P.M.

4. Place of birth (exact Longitude and Latitude).

5. Whether or not Daylight Savings Time (or Wartime) was in effect.

We are including the Longitudes and Latitudes for fifty of the major
United States cities. You can approximate the Latitudes and Longitudes
of other cities using any Atlas or large map. You can check with local
authorities to determine when time changes took place during the year.

We would recommend purchasing two invaluable books if you are going
to be doing a number of charts:

1. Longitudes and Latitudes in the United States, by Eugene Dernay

2. Time Changes in the USA, by Doris Chase Doane

Both of these books are modestly priced and will make life a great deal easier
when preparing horoscopes. An alternative to the first book would be
the AFA Astrological Atlas of the United States, which is more expensive,
but more complete than the first book. All of these books are published
by the American Federation of Astrologers. P.O. Box 22040, Tempe,
Arizona 85282.

How to Use the TRS-80 Astrology Program (continued)

Time of Birth Corrections

For convenience, man simply freezes time across a time zone. It is
necessary to know the longitude of the birthplace to determine the actual
position of the Sun at birth. This procedure is called "True Local Time"
or "Corrected Local Time". For most cities, the program provides automatic
corrections for True Local Time. You simply enter the time of birth and
the computer will determine the "Corrected Local Time".

Some states do not follow these time zones exactly. If a city is located more
than 7V2 degrees west of its time zone, enter the birth time as one hour
earlier. The program will then do the rest of the calculations. Time zones
in the United States are located at 75, 90, 105, and 120 degrees. If the city
is located West of the Time zone AND is further than 7Vz degrees from the
time zone, subtract one hour from the birthtime.

If you have Dernay's Longitudes and Latitudes Book, you won't have any
problem. If the L.M.T. is within ±30 minutes, simply enter the birth time.
For most cities, the correction is never more than ±30 minutes away from
the Center Longitude of the time zone. If the required correction is more than
-30.00 minutes, subtract one hour from the birth time.

3. When READY > ^appears, type [§[3 [SEES and press I ENTER] .

4. The screen will show*?_. Type gj [H [T][R] [O] and press [ENTER | .

5. When *? appears again, type [7] and press l~ENTER I .

6. Press | ENTER | after every instruction you type.

Note: Since Astrology is written in Machine Language, the asterisks will
flash at a slower rate than normal. If you have a Level II Disk System,
this program will not load into Disk Basic. You must use BASIC2 to load
this program. Follow the instructions for Level II as shown.

Running the Program (continued)

After you load the Astrology Program, you will be asked to enter the name
of the person whose chart is being prepared. This is an optional feature.
It simply makes the chart more personalized. If you donH want to have the
person's name appear on the screen, or the printed chart, simply
press the [ENTER \ key.

The date of birth is the first required information. If some one has a
January 5, 1959 birthday, type [IDE 0(1] [EH [El] and press [E NTER j. When
entering the date, each number between the slashes must contain 2 digits.
January through September must be entered as H]|T| through &\\S\.
The same is true of the first 9 days of any month. Put a i in front of
the number. The last two digits are for the year. The program is designed
for birth dates between 1900 and 1999.

The next required question is the exact time of birth. Before you enter the
birth time, check the location of the city to determine whether the time
correction can be handled by the program (no more than ±30 minutes). If the
time correction is within these limits, enter the birth time, using a period
(not a colon) to separate the hours from the minutes.. For example:
5.25 would be a typical birth time. You don't need a leading in front of
a single digit hour.

The program will accept 5.20 or 05.20.

Now you can enter \MM or [P]@ in answer to the next question.

Note: Some people may not know the time of birth. If the birth time is
unknown, press | ENTER 1 instead of typing in a time, and the program will
produce a chart calculated for a 12 noon birth.

The Time Changes in the United States book will help you determine
whether or not Daylight Savings Time or Wartime was in effect on that day.
You will answer the question with a jYl or an [N|.

Note: Wartime was Daylight Savings Time ALL YEAR long during World
Wars I & II.

Running the Program (continued)

Place of birth is an optional question that need not be answered. It can
be helpful if the chart is shown to a professional astrologer, since the
astrologer can check your chart for accuracy.

The program will ask for the longitude and the latitude of the birth place.
The answer must be in degrees and minutes of a degree. For example, if you
were born halfway between longitude 71.00 and 72.00, you would enter
[ZKHdiflltD as the longitude. One degree of longitude equals 60 minutes.
3 /4 of a degree of longitude equals 45 minutes. l A of a degree of longitude
equals 15 minutes.

The program assumes longitude to be West and latitude to be North.
For example, assume you were born in Tucson, Arizona. The longitude
is shown as 110W59. The program assumes West, so you would simply enter
[BE] 12 □HKE. The latitude is listed as 32N14 and since the program
assumes North, you would enter [UGIOCllSl-

If you were born South of the Equator, enter a minus number for latitude.
A person born in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, was born at
110E22 longitude and 7S48 latitude. Eastern longitudes are entered as
negative numbers, so you would type QEHOnCIJt!] as the longitude.

Southern latitudes are also negative entries, and you would type
G][7]n[4][!] as the latitude. North latitudes and West longitudes are plus
numbers, while South latitudes and East longitudes are minus numbers.

The last question is whether you want a chart printed br simply displayed
on the screen. If you have an 80 column printer, type a [Y] and press ENTER.
The typical chart is almost 3 feet long on most printers. It will take about
3 or 4 minutes to produce the chart.

If you do not have a printer (or you just want to see one part of a chart),
tyP e 03- The horoscope will appear on the screen, one section at a time.
It will stop at each full screen and wait while you copy down the information.
You can then press any key to proceed to the next screenful of information.

At the end of the chart, simply press any key to go back to the start of the
program and prepare a new chart.

Reading the Horoscope

Reading the Horoscope

The first section of the horoscope is designed to be used as a reference for
astrologers. It shows the corrections used for local and Greenwich
Mean Time as well as the longitude and latitude, and whether Daylight
Savings Time was in effect. If you do many charts, include the name of the
person and the birthplace. These two facts are not necessary to the program,
and, if you choose, you may use these two lines for any type of information
you wish.

The first calculated information is the Ascendant (or Rising Sign). If you
did not enter a birth time, the Ascendant cannot be determined, and this
line will not appear.

The planets, starting with the Sun, will be listed in order. On some charts
you may notice the word. RETROGRADE following a particular planet.
This is a phenomenon that causes the planet to appear to move backward
for a period of time. The effect of a retrograde motion is difficulty in using
the planet's energy in a straight-forward manner. The area the planet
rules becomes more subconscious, and difficult to control.

After the planets are listed, the program prints the Natal Aspects. This is
simply the angle formed between the planets which shows whether the
planetary forces are working smoothly and harmoniously, or creating
tensions and conflicts. The numbers at the very end of each line indicate
how far the angle is from exact alignment. If the number is minus, it means
the angle is approaching the exact condition ("Applying 11 ). A positive
number means the angle has formed and is now moving apart ("Separating*').
The poster points out which angles are harmonious or difficult.

The Elements and Modes of a Sign indicate any predominance in an area of
the chart. A quick glance will indicate if the person is enthusiastic, stable,
or flexible in relation to energy, practicality, expression, or emotion.

Reading the Horoscope (continued)

The planets in the houses indicate how the planets affect the various areas
in your life. This section deals with how you apply your energies on a
day-to-day basis. The poster provides ready capsule summaries of these
effects.

Signs on the cusps of the houses show the influences of the signs on your
life and attitudes toward specific areas of your life. Again, the poster
provides a brief summary.

If you have a printer, the program will print out a Natal Chart, showing
all the planets in the Houses in the form of a wheel. The cusp of each House
will be marked, and all the planets will be placed in the corresponding
Houses. The program cannot print the wheel on the screen due to the size
requirements of the wheel. All the information necessary to construct the
wheel is printed on the screen, if you do not have a printer available.
The program is designed for use with the Line Printer I. II, III, or the TRS-80
Quick Printer (26-1153).

The average chart is about 32" long. The program is designed for use with
roll paper, and will not recognize end of page locations. If the birthtime is
not provided, the program will return to the beginning after printing
elements and modes.

Influence of the Planets

Understanding the Influence of the Planets

The Sun

The Sun sign indicates the life forces, and to a degree, provides the basic
character traits. If the other planets strengthen the Sun sign, a person might
appear very typical of his Sun sign — the impulsive Aries, the talkative
Gemini, the homeloving Taurus, the dramatic Leo. etc.

If the planets are strongly grouped in another sign, the person may take on
the characteristics of the other sign. The Sun sign may be so overpowered,
the person exhibits none of the traits connected with the Sun sign. This is
why some people are not a typical Taurus. Leo, Capricorn, etc. Just knowing
your Sun sign is not enough.

The constant interplay between all the planets is the key to correct
interpretation. The placement of all the planets determines the person —
some placements weaken some planets, others strengthen their effect.
Even if the planet is well-placed, a planet with an aspect to Mars can strongly
affect a well-placed planet, increasing or decreasing the planet's effect.
This is why you should never read a simple interpretation of any planet in a
particular sign. You must determine the influence of aspects to planets
on any specific planet. The whole chart must be blended and modified, based
on the position of all the planets, and their relationship to each other.

The Ascendent (Rising Sign)

The Ascendent, or Rising Sign, is the sign that was on the Eastern horizon
at the exact moment of birth. Since the Earth rotates every 24 hours, the
sign on the horizon changes every 2 hours. The Ascendent determines
the placement of the Houses (explained later). It is most important to know
the exact time of birth in order to determine the Ascendent and the House
placement. The Ascendent determines physical appearance, self-image,
and how you project yourself to others. Often times, the Ascendent is the
most important factor in a chart.

Influence of the Planets (continued)

The Moon

The Moon shows emotional needs and the form the personality will assume.
It governs the emotions, and psychological needs. It represents the area of
mental security in life. It brings out the protective nature. Moon and Venus
in a man's chart relates to women.

Mercury

Mercury rules the mind and the intellect. It points to the way a person
thinks, and the method of expression. Mercury is often an excellent
indicator of the type of work that is most likely to achieve success for
the individual.

Venus

Venus determines the manner in which one looks at love. It also indicates
the attitude (and feelings) toward beauty and romance. It's an excellent
indicator of the type of art and furniture to be found in the home.

Mars

Mars determines how energies will be applied. It also determines the sexual
nature. A dynamic, energetic person will have a well-placed Mars, and
the Sun sign will also be in a good relationship with Mars. Sun and Mars in a
woman's chart relates to men.

Jupiter

Jupiter is the planet of benefits, increase, and bounty. It increases the
strength and effect of a planet if it is in good relationship to the planet.
The exceptions would be relationships with the planets Saturn, Neptune,
and occasionally Uranus.

Saturn

Saturn points to troubles in life, Saturn in relationship to the other planets
indicates the nature of trials and adversity. The Saturn and Sun relationships
show troubles with self-image and basic nature. Saturn and Gemini
relationships show troubled areas in the thought processes. Saturn and Venus
indicates problems with love and romance.

Influence of the Planets (continued)

Uranus

Uranus indicates a sudden change in life. It can also mean something unique,
or it can mean a degree of eccentricity. Saturn and Uranus in close relationship
are usually strong indicators of sudden trouble. As you learn to interpret
the chart, you will notice the repeated pattern of this Saturn and Uranus
relationship, to the point where you can pinpoint, to the month, a serious
problem in a chart. Tread lightly in this area. It can often show a part of life
that he may never want revealed or known.

Neptune

Neptune is associated with lies, deception, and self-delusion. Many
astrologers hold that Neptune strongly affects psychic abilities and
clairvoyance. Often, it will point to areas where lies occurred, or an area
of self-deception.

Pluto

Pluto represents transformation and change in attitudes or surroundings.
Often, the change is of a violent, or revolutionary nature.

The planets, together with the Rising Sign, determine an individual's basic
nature and the attitude brought to every event in his life. The relationship
between the planets (Aspects), and the signs these planets are in, as well
as the Houses will modify all the characteristics of a person's nature and
attitude — strengthening some and weakening others. Every planet,
and its relationship to every other planet, must be considered and weighed
before you can attempt even a simple interpretation.

11

Natal Aspects

Natal Aspects

The aspects are the angles formed between the planets at the time of birth.
Some planets are influenced by other planets. Depending on the planets,
and the angles formed, forces are created which create harmonious or
difficult interaction. The number at the end of each aspect line shows how
far away the planets are from forming a perfect angle. A negative number
means the angle has not yet formed, and the energy of the angle is increasing
(or "applying* , ). A positive number means the angle has formed and is now
moving away and diminishing (or "separating"). An applying angle has
more force than a separating angle. 0.00 would mean the angle has reached
its peak effect. The major aspectsare:

Conjunctions

A conjunction occurs when two planets are close together (within 9 degrees).
If the planets are similar in nature, a strengthening effect will result.
If the planets are not similar, the two energies will work against each
other. For example, Saturn does not work well with any planet, and
conjunctions with Saturn create difficulties that show up in the area of
the planet that is conjunct with Saturn. Most Jupiter conjunctions
are beneficial. A conjunction is one of the most powerful angles in astrology.
The poster shows which conjunctions are beneficial.

Oppositions

When two planets are ISO degrees apart, they are in opposition. They tend to
pull against each other, canceling out effects. Very few oppositions
would be considered good. When two planets are in opposition, there might
be a planet that is in aspect to both of the opposing planets. This will
provide an outlet for the energy of the opposing planets. It would appear as
a tunneling of the energies through this third planet. The opposition
is also a powerful angle.

Trines

This an^le is formed by two planets 120 degrees apart. It causes a smooth
flow of energy between the two planets that are trined. Usually, trines indicate
effortless energies in the area of the planefs influence. As with most things
in life, too much of a good thing can be bad. If a person has mostly trines
and other good aspects, the personality tends to be bland and lifeless.
Everyone needs a little tension and difficulty to stay on their toes. Trines are
generally good (in moderation), and are very powerful.

13

Natal Aspects (continued)

Squares

The 90 degree angle formed by the square create tensions and vector the
energy into a new angle halfway between the two planets. Most people
consider squares and oppositions as bad aspects. They do however.
create dynamics that cause the person to have a forceful personality, and
generally help to make life interesting. The square is slightly less forceful
than the opposition. While a square is regarded by the possesser as bad. it
may be beneficial in the same way that people grow out of adversity.

Sextile

The sextile is a 60 degree angle formed between two planets and is similar
in effect to the trine. It indicates a smooth harmonious relationship between
the involved planets. It is weaker than a trine and bears the same relation
to a trine as a square relates to an opposition. If two planets are in opposition
to each other, and aspected to a third planet, the energies of the opposing
planets will be expressed through this third planet and the negative effects
will tend to be smoothed out.

Semi-Sextile

This is a 30 degree angle that is similar (but weaker) to the sextile and trine.
As you become familiar with the aspects, you will begin to observe the
affect that they have on a person's life. The aspects indicate how the planets
distribute their energy. If there are too many good aspects (trines.
sextiles, and some conjunctions), these aspects can easily combine to create
a lifeless selfish, lackluster person that does not have a distinctive or
individual personality. All bad aspects can produce someone with more
than their fair share of troubles and adversities.

Signs of the Zodiac

Signs of the Zodiac

The signs of the Zodiac are arranged in a circle, each sign occupying exactly
30 degrees. The 12 signs add up to 360 degrees — the completed Zodiac.
Do not confuse the signs of the Zodiac with the Houses. The signs are
associated with attitudes and personal characteristics, while the Houses
are associated with events in a person's life. The confusion occurs
because the Houses appear to be 30 degrees wide and have the same circular
look as the signs of the Zodiac. The Houses actually vary in size but are
usually shown equal.

The planets and signs of the Zodiac are placed in Houses of the Zodiac.

As you move North from the Equator, the Houses assume different proportions

some Houses increasing to as much as 40 or 50 degrees across, while other

Houses decrease in size. The signs of the Zodiac can be said to be natural

rulers of various Houses, and the sign at the start of each House (on the

Cusp) will determine the attitudes and traits a person brings to each event

in his life.

Each sign is ruled by a planet. A planet, in the sign it rules, has its strongest
influence, while a planet in a sign opposite its natural home will take on
negative characteristics and meaning.

Each planet Rules a sign (its natural home), and has a Detrimental sign
(opposite its natural home). A planet has a sign of Exaultation (similar to its
natural home), and a sign of Fall (opposite the sign of Exaultation and
similar to the sign of Detriment). A planet in its natural sign, or in
Exaultation, will increase the nature of its characteristics. A planet in a sign
of Detriment, or Fall, weaken the strength (or bring out the negative
character) of the planet.

Each sign has 3 qualities. The first is the basic nature of the sign and
the influence on attitudes and basic characteristic traits. Each sign also
has a mode, which may be Cardinal (active or energetic). Fixed (stable and
perservering), or Mutable (flexible and adaptable). Each sign is also related
to an element — Fire (enthusiasm). Earth (practical). Air(thinking). and
Water (emotions).

Taken together, the elements and modes provide a basic description of the sign.

Aries

Aries is a Cardinal Fire sign. Aries is ruled by the planet Mars. It is the
sign of active and enthusiastic energies. It is the sign of the individual —
daring, impulsive, sometimes reckless, but always right now and immediate.
Think of Aries as "I am". Many times the enthusiasm and energy of Aries
create serious problems. The sign of Aries is said to be the ruler of the head.

15

Signs of the Zodiac (continued)

Taurus

Taurus is a Fixed Earth sign. Taurus is ruled by Venus. It is the sign of
stability and roots. It is the sign of perseverance and practicality. The
description suggests home, plants, love, and determination. It is a sign of
possessions and steadfastness of purpose. Think of Taurus as "I have".
Taurus is said to rule the kidneys, neck and throat. Taurus is also a
sign of stubbornness.

Gemini

Gemini is a Mutable Air sign, ruled by Mercury. It is the sign of flexible,
adaptable thinking. It's a sign concerned with communication and
expression. The sign represents thoughts, speech, writing, and all methods
of expressing ideas. Gemini has a key phrase of "I think". Gemini rules
the arms, lungs, and vocal cords. The versatility of Gemini can sometimes
pose a problem because of tendency to be bored quickly. Projects are left
unfinished in an effort to explore all possible avenues.

Cancer

Cancer is a Cardinal Water sign. Cancer is ruled by the Moon. It is the sign
of active emotions. It is the sign of recognition between the individual
and the group. It is a sign of protection and secrecy, and often insecurity.
Cancer is associated with extreme sensitivity, impressions, and memory.
Cancer rules the breasts. Think of Cancer as "I feel". Many times, the
insecurity results in secrecy (for self-preservation), and a tendency
to over-sentimentalize.

Leo

Leo is a Fixed Fire sign. Leo is ruled by the Sun. It is the sign of fixed energies,
pride, courage, and nobility. Leo is also associated with children and
self-indulgence. Leo rules the heart and the blood. Think of Leo as "I will".
The sign of Leo can be a sign of benevolence, self-worth, and leadership.
Other factors can easily change the meaning of the sign to vanity and ego.

Virgo

Virgo is a Mutable Earth sign. Virgo is ruled by Mercury, it is the sign
concerned with health, service, and attention to detail. Virgo's preoccupations
are with detail, precision, analysis, and categorization. Too much Virgo
can make an individual overly critical, fussy, and lead to excessive worry.
Some astrologers say. "Virgo is the sign of the ulcer". Virgo rules
the intestines and the digestive tract. The love of detailed work can often
give way to puritanical snobbery. Virgo says. "I analyze".

Signs of the Zodiac (continued)

Libra

Libra is a Cardinal Air sign. Libra is ruled by Venus. It is the sign concerned
with personal activity and sociability. If the first 6 signs of the Zodiac are
thought of in terms of internal development, then Libra is the first sign
of the outward development and harmony with others. There are two
phrases which sum up the function of Libra. First of all, think of Libra as
"I balanced Think of it also as the balance against Aries, its opposite sign.
Aries is "I am" — Libra is "We are". Libra seeks balance and harmony
above all. which makes for excellent statesmen and negotiators. The Libra
desire to balance can give way to indecision and irritating fence straddling,
causing an inability to make even a simple decision. Libra rules the
stomach and navel, although the kidneys are said to be often the center
of Libra illnesses. Libra is elegant, refined, attractive, yet can be cool,
detached, and impersonal.

Scorpio

Scorpio is a Fixed Water sign. Scorpio is ruled by Pluto although many
astrologers hold that Scorpio is also ruled by Mars. It is a sign of
stable emotions, in other words, control. The description by Mode and
Element is Fixed Water, which is another term for ice. Outwardly, the emotions
are cooly controlled while beneath the surface of the ice, the waters of
emotion rush on headlong. Beneath the controlled exterior, lie violent
passions which will only surface in private. Think of Scorpio as "I desire",
on an individual level. On a collective level, it is not the Taurus "I have"
response, but a collective, "We have" that demonstrates Scorpio's concern
for society's resources. The sign of Scorpio creates a powerful, physical
magnetism. Scorpio rules the reproductive organs. Scorpio is intense,
sensitive, objective, however, other factors can easily change the qualities
to a lust for power, possession, and self-seeking success, whatever the cost
to others.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius is a Mutable Fire sign. Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter. It can be
considered as adaptable enthusiasm, the ever searching mind. Sagittarius
represents both the idealized teacher and the eternal student — always
on a quest for yet more knowledge. As Gemini says "I think" on an
individual level, so Sagittarius says "I seek" on abroad philosophical level.
Sagittarius rules the thighs and the upper portion of the leg. While
Sagittarius imparts truth, knowledge, and generosity, it can produce
opinionation. tactlessness, and a tendency to be dogmatic.

17

igns of the Zodiac (continued)

Capricorn

Capricorn is a Cardinal Earth sign ruled by Saturn. The energies are made
stable and take the form of organization and structure. Capricorn represents
the cautious climber on the ladder of organization. Capricorn symbolizes
the builder, climbing the structure he builds. Capricorn imparts an
awareness of social contribution. The sign brings ambition and hard
working realistic attitudes to any function tackled. Think of Capricorn as
"I build". Capricorn rules the knee and the shin. A planet poorly placed
in Capricorn can impose self-restrictions, limitations, cause feelings
of depression and difficulty in breaking habits.

Aquarius

Aquarius is a Fixed Air sign ruled by Uranus . Thoughts become
stable as Aquarius views the future of social growth with a sense of duty
to improve the quality of life. In a sense, Aquarius is revolutionary,
creating a need for sudden change (Uranus) even if that change is unorthodox
and unconventional. Aquarius is a sign of invention. Aquarius rules the
circulatory system. Think of Aquarius as 'T know". Aquarius can be
a powerful force for the unusual, inventive, and concern, or, it can lead to
eccentricitv. destruction, and isolation.

Pisces

The last sign of the Zodiac is Pisces, a Mutable Water sign. This sign of
adaptable emotions is ruled by Neptune, the planet of dreams and illusions.
This last sign of the Zodiac represents the hopes and dreams of society.
Pisces brings the qualities of faith to the Zodiac and produced an ethereal,
sympathetic, self-sacrificing force that can be either a source of inspiration,
or dissolves into a dream world state of confused self-indulgence.
Think of Pisces as "I believe". Pisces rules the feet. The force of Pisces
must be understood because of the tremendous potential for self-undoing,
self-deception, and destructive empathy. It can be a sign of weakness,
addiction, and sensuality, or it can lift the spirit to the highest levels of
faith and understanding.

Placing the Planets in the Signs

Placing the Planets in the Signs

It is at this point that the beginning astrologer, and even the experienced
as toToger must move slowly and cautiously before making a judgment.
Everything learned so far must be carefully weighed and balanced.
Don't try to interpret anything until this placement is completed
and studied.

Even though some Sun sign descriptions may seem to fil ^"(He s a
tvoical Leo etc ) there are many factors to be considered before a full
nCiation can be made. Don't fall into this enticing trapj may woiK
o some people but eventually you will find your interpretations
beconlg'Ze generalized, inaccurate, and little better than a good guess.

Study the planets. Study the signs. Study the planets in the signs. Try to
capture the feeling that each planet and sign projects. Once you
become aware of tie overall unity of the planets working in the signs,
a detailed, accurate interpretation will become obvious.

Blending the Sun, Ascendent and Moon in the Signs (continued)

I Lets continue with another example. Look at a Taurus Ascendent. A good

i description of a Taurus Ascendent might be stable, slow and steady.

Put him in a Taurus Sun car and you have a slow and cautious driver in a
slow, practical car. Let's put this driver into a Aries Sun sports car. How

* will this Taurus Ascendent work with this Aries Sun? He will drive

I this high-powered vehicle the same way — slow and steady. That's the

| result of an Aries Sun and a Taurus Ascendent. The person is no longer

| "a typical Aries".

I

jj Using the Sun sign descriptions from the previous pages, see if you can fit

t different makes of automobiles to the various Sun signs. Remember,

' you want to try for a general description of the type, and not the exact model

\ or color. In some cases, you may have to describe a Sun sign in a little more

I detail. Here's a start:

| Sun in Aries — any high-powered sports car that suggests impulsiveness

■ and energy.

I Sun in Taurus — any car that suggests the qualities of Taurus (slow

I and steady).

\ Sun in Leo — Cadillac, Mercedes, Rolls Royce (cars with pride and drama).

I Sun in Pisces — any car that was bought because you felt sorry for it.

I Make a list in your mind of all the Sun sign cars, and think of what would

I happen by putting different Ascendent drivers in each car.

\ Lefs take this concept another way: let's take the Sun sign and imagine

f it to be the house in which the person lives. The Ascendent describes the

\ appearance of the person living in the house, and how the person appears to

[ others. A Taurus house would have lots of plants, while a Leo house

\ might be very dramatic. That's the Sun sign — it doesn't necessarily
describe the occupant, just a brief description of the type of house.

\

! The Ascendent describes the occupant. A Taurus Ascendent with a Leo Sun

J is like a person who loves plants, living in a dramatic house. It's a slower,

* stable person living in a dramatic, showplace of a house. His love for

| plants may overwhelm the dramatic qualities of the house. The Leo Sun

j house is hidden behind the Taurus Ascendent plants.

\ A Virgo Ascendent in the same Leo house (Sun sign) will present a

! different picture. There will be fewer plants, and everything in the house

j will be meticulously organized, with each thing in its assigned place.

j If the Virgo Ascendent occupant moves out and a Capricorn Ascendent

j moves in. the house will be restructured and reorganized. The house is still

j the same house, but the different occupant changes the feeling.

Later on, we might find other planets in a person's chart so strongly placed,
that they overcome the Moon's energy, and we must revert to the original
Aries description, including recklessness, impulsive, etc.

When you can successfully blend, integrate, and sythesize all of the planets

The Houses (continued)

The first six Houses are concerned with self-filling personal needs and
desires. They are totally oriented toward the development of the individual.
These are the inward Houses. They deal with the total self. The second
six Houses provide the balance of the individual's role in society.
The awakening of recognition that others exist, that a person is dependent
on other people for fulfillment. This is the role of the last six Houses.

The Seventh House is the first total awareness of others, and your
relationship with others. A recognition that you are not alone in the world.
It balances the first House of self-awareness. It shows your marriage
partner, and everyone who is close to you in the way of partnerships.

The Eighth House balances the Second House. It is the House of other people's
resources. Helping others develop their resources. It is the House of
passion and sexual drive with others. It is the House of Death and Rebirth.
If the Fifth House is your personal views on love, then the Eighth House
lets you express that love to others — through sex, and concern for growth.

The Ninth House is the House of the enlightened mind. Philosophy,
religion, higher learning, publishing, and long distance travel are all part
of Ninth House affairs. The desire to learn, and the desire to teach balance
the Third House of the personal mind and ideas.

The Tenth House is the House of professions. It is also the House of the other
parent. This House determines how well you will succeed in your
efforts in a career. Many times, this House will indicate your present
circumstances. It will usually point to the heights of possible achievement.

The Eleventh House is the House of friends, dreams, and goals. Most often,
it will tell the way you regard your friends, and how your friends regard you.
The Eleventh House can also show how you plan to achieve your goals
and realize your ambitions.

The Twelfth House is the House of solitude and endings. Recently, the
Twelfth House has come to be associated with large corporations,
government, and large organizations in general. It is the traditional House
of solitude and anything which is hidden. Serious illness is part of
the Twelfth House influence.

Miscellaneous Notes

Miscellaneous Notes

The South Node is always directly opposite the North Node. Every sign
will not always appear on the cusp of every house. When this happens,
it means that two of the signs are "Intercepted", or located totally within two
of the houses. An intercepted sign (and any planets in that sign) will
have a great deal of difficulty in operating with their full force.

If anyone should ever ask you, the program is a Geocentric, Tropical Natal
Astrology program, using the Placidean House System. It corrects
for Time shifts, corrects to Greenwich time, provides Sidereal corrections,
and adjusts for True Lunar Nodes, and Moon location, as well as showing
Retrograde Planetary motion. All calculations are accurate to within
one degree for any date between January 1, 1900 and December 31. 1999.

If you do not enter a birth time, the program will base all calculations on
a Noon birth time. If you wish house information for an unknown birth time,
simply enter [T][2][I][g]® as the time, and [P]E3 as a noon birth.

For births prior to 1900, simply subtract 1900 from the year. For example:
You wish to do a chart for someone born in 1875, subtract 1900 from 1875.
The answer is -25. Enter the year as HOOD- The moon calculations will
probably not appear, and the accuracy will deteriorate as you move further
from the recommended range.

Recorded birthtimes are not always accurate. If the house information
does not seem to apply, try changing the time by one hour either way to
compensate for a possible time zone error. A few minutes can sometimes
make a big difference if the planets are near house cusps.

Secondary Progressions

There is an advanced Astrology technique for updating a Natal Chart
to reveal current conditions for the present year. It is based on advancing
the Natal Chart one day for each year. Thus, if you were born on January 1.
1960, you would prepare a chart on your 20th birthday as if you were born
January 21, 1960. A one day advance of the Natal Chart equals a one year
advance in time. If you are 20 years old. add 20 days to your date of birth.

It becomes a little tricky for people in the 30 to 50 year age group to figure
the additional months and days involved, however the TRS-80 can make
secondary progressions very easy. When you enter the day of birth, simply
add your age to the birthdate. Leave the month and year alone. For example:
assume a birthdate of May 20. 1937. The person is now 43 years old. Simply
enter the birthdate as 05/63/37. The program will produce a progressed
chart for July 2, 1937 (which would be the correct progression for the age —
May 20. 1937 + 43 days ~ July 2. 1937). The interpretations would be similar
to a natal chart, but would indicate the influences that are in effect at present.
It will print the date as May 63. 1937. but the chart will be identical to a chart
for Julv 2. 1937.
